Familiar Licence Terms
Version 1.0, effective 16 October 2026
These terms govern your use of Familiar: the Foundry VTT module and the familiar-vtt MCP server, together "the software". Familiar is published by Ryan Jansen Software, the Netherlands (KVK 42141999). You accept these terms by checking the box at checkout. Polar.sh handles the sale as merchant of record; these terms govern the licence to the software.
1. The licence. The software is licensed under the PolyForm Shield License 1.0.0. The full licence text ships with every release and applies in full; these terms apply in addition to it. In short: you may use the software for any purpose except providing a product that competes with it.
2. No decompiling or deobfuscating. You will not decompile, deobfuscate, unminify or otherwise reverse-engineer the software, and you will not let anyone do so on your behalf, except to the extent that applicable law allows it regardless of this clause (in the European Union: Directive 2009/24/EC, Articles 5(3) and 6, and their national transpositions).
3. No competing use. You will not use the software, any part of it, or anything derived from it, including a decompiled or deobfuscated copy, as the basis, reference or blueprint for a product that competes with the software. Products compete when they provide the same or substantially similar functionality, on any platform, through any interface, in any language, whether sold or given away. This is the licence's Noncompete section, restated.
4. The trial. A trial subscription is a licence under these terms, from the first day.
5. Your licence key. The key is issued to you. Do not publish it or pass it on.
6. Breach. If you break these terms, your licence ends as the licence's Violations section provides: you receive a written notice and have 32 days to stop the breach the first time; after that, a breach ends the licence at once. Clauses 2 and 3 continue to apply after your licence ends.
7. What the software sends. Familiar runs on your machine. Your prompts and world content go only to the AI providers you configure, with the keys you supply. Licence validation sends your licence key and Familiar's Polar organisation id to Polar.sh. The software sends nothing to Ryan Jansen Software.
8. Changes to these terms. A new version applies to purchases and renewals made after its effective date. This page keeps every version.
9. Law and courts. Dutch law applies. Disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands, with one exception: if you are a consumer in the European Union or the EEA, you may bring a claim in the courts of your own country, you may only be sued there, and the mandatory consumer protections of your country apply regardless of this clause.
